Gilbert Sharpe, LL.B., LL.M., Editor-in-Chief
Gilbert is a Senior Counsel at Abrahams LLP. He was the former long-time Director of the Legal Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Through his involvement with the Ministry of Health and associated work with numerous ministries and agencies of the Ontario government as well as federal departments, Gilbert has been involved continuously with important legal issues and policy matters affecting health care, including the development of legislation and policies to improve the health care system and to promote ongoing and effective exchange of information related to new initiatives. Since leaving the Ontario government, Gilbert has continued to work on numerous health law and policy matters, both in the private and public sectors. Gilbert also holds several professorships across the province.
Rosario G. Cartagena, BSc., M.Sc., J.D., Deputy Editor-in-Chief
Rosario is an associate in Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP’s health law group. She provides advice on a variety of health law matters, including corporate governance, public policy, government relations, risk management, privacy, health regulatory compliance, and health research. She also regularly assists in drafting agreements, related to corporate governance and regulatory compliance across the health sector.
Rosario is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.
Wendy A. Lawrence, B.A., LL.B., Managing Editor – Strategic Liaison
Wendy is Legal Counsel at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she provides advice in the areas of health law, corporate governance, commercial law, procurement and privacy. Her practice includes advising on the development of hospital policies, physician credentialing, quality of care issues, corporate compliance, and enterprise risk management.

Sharon is the Manager of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network. She provides leadership and oversight in facilitating collaboration between Toronto’s academic and research hospitals and the University of Toronto to promote high quality patient care, education, knowledge transfer, and research innovation. She has over ten years of experience providing legal, policy, strategic, and governance to support to healthcare organizations.

Natasha is an associate at Steinecke Maciura LeBlanc. Natasha practices in the area of professional regulation, including on matters related to complaint investigation and discipline.
Sara Azargive, B.A (Hons), LL.B., Managing Editor – Publisher and Author Liaison
Sara began her practice at the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario focusing exclusively on privacy and access to information and health privacy law. She currently leads a privacy team at Cancer Care Ontario with responsibility for privacy program development, regulatory compliance and management of privacy and related legal challenges, specifically pertaining to health, research, information management/information technology issues. She also sits on the Baycrest and Women’s College Hospital Research Ethics Board as their legal representative.

Simmie is Senior Health Law Counsel at Dykeman & O’Brien LLP (ddohealthlaw.com) and a member of the Ontario Bar Association. Simmie advises health sector organizations and individuals about privacy, consent, substitute decision-making, professional regulation, practice arrangements & risk management. Simmie has been in private practice since 2007 and before that was legal counsel to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Simmie is a native Torontonian and a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School & McGill University.

Sana is a lawyer at Powell Barrister, practicing primarily in the area of professional liability. Her focus on International law during law school granted her an internship opportunity at the World Bank’s International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes. Sana’s primary passion in healthcare, especially mental health, stems from her undergraduate years where she obtained a specialization in psychology. She continues to read and blog on this subject matter, in particular with respect to access to health care and patients’ rights. She continues to follow the field closely, and seek opportunities to contribute and network with experts.

Nisha graduated from Windsor Law and began her career at a full service law firm in downtown Toronto before practicing primarily in the area of Family Law. Her professional interests include health law, privacy law, corporate law and regulatory compliance. Additionally, Nisha volunteers at Pro Bono Ontario’s Corporate Law Clinic.
Leane Lardner, LL.B., LL.M., Managing Editor – Media & Public Relations Liaison
Leane completed her law degree in the UK at the University of Kent and has recently obtained her LL.M degree at the University of Toronto with a focus on health law. During her LL.M, Leane was also a Canadian Institutes of Health Research fellow studying the impact of innovative food labelling schemes on the rates of obesity.

Cindy is Counsel, Research at St. Michael’s Hospital, where she advises on all areas of law related to Healthcare research, including but not limited to health law, corporate law, privacy law, intellectual property, corporate governance and procurement. Her practice involves advising on development of hospital policies, conflict of interest management, responsible conduct of research, commercialization of intellectual property, and healthcare regulatory compliance.

Anna is a recent call to the Ontario bar. She articled at a civil litigation firm and gained experience in insurance and environmental law as well as defamation and social media law. Prior to articling Anna was part of the insurance and environmental group at a major Canadian REIT

Pamela is a Privacy Officer at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences. She completed her articles at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where she developed an interest in health and business law. Prior to becoming a lawyer, she was a social worker in the hospital and community, specializing in children and families.
Michele Warner, M.S.W., J.D.
Legal Counsel, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Toronto). Michele provides legal advice on a wide range of patient care, privacy, policy and risk management issues to the leadership, physicians and staff of CAMH. She also represents the hospital in hearings before the Ontario Review Board, and resulting appeals.

Jaime Cardy is an Adjudication Review Officer at the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. Jaime has worked in both public and private practice, and her professional interests include health privacy, regulatory compliance and risk management. In addition to her work at the IPC, Jaime is enrolled in the Health Law LLM program at Osgoode Hall Law School.
